The Algarve Region is in the southwest of Europe on the southern corner of Portugal, and is the most popular place to visit in the country after Lisbon, and is famed for its tranquil beaches and subtle charm.

The Algarve is also known for its picturesque fishing villages, Moorish architecture, and ancient sites, such as the Alcoutim Castle and Archaeological Museum.
The best way to explore the Algarve region is with car hire, which makes it easy to stop at each of the major tourist centres of the region such as Lagos, Portimao, and Albuferia. Within these areas there are plenty of beach locations, old towns, historic churches, and a generally pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. In fact, the locals are well known for being friendly, helpful, and extremely hospitable.
Also worth a visit is the Algarve Way, which is a scenic walking trail that reaches across the region and covers by many tourist sites, villages, and towns. The trail takes about half a day to complete and is lined with plenty of pines to compliment the woods in between stops.
The Algarve region additionally provides skiers plenty of piste areas during the ski season. Due to the temperate climates of the slopes tourists can also enjoy the world class golf courses, try out horse riding, or take the time to play a few tennis matches.
During a visit to Algarve it is important to try out the local cuisine which is a blend of Moorish dishes and Mediterranean dishes. Many meals are also cooked al fresco centred on fresh seafood as a main course. The wines of the region and the cakes are also gourmet and refined.
